BIRTH DOULAS
provide comfort, encouragement, and reassurance through respect for women in labor. This includes both physical and emotional support for mothers and their partners. Techniques utilized include relaxation, massage, and positioning to aide labor progress. Doulas often meet families prenatally and continue to offer support throughout the baby’s first month.
POSTPARTUM DOULAS
offer education, companionship and nonjudgmental support during the postpartum period. This includes evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, infant soothing and coping skills, as well as assistance with newborn care, meal preparation and light household tidying. Doulas make appropriate referrals to lactation, sleep, and healthcare professionals.
